January/ February 2011- Highlights

My poor blog is trying to catch up with my life. Hopefully, after I do a Jan and Feb post, I can start blogging with up to date news again!

As far as facebook can help me remember,

Erik came to Singapore for a few days! We make it a point to meet up no matter how short the time.

Then debbie and Janet came back!! It was a time of reunion! Our last DT zone meeting felt a lot like Chinese New Year, when all the girls bring their other halfs home to meet the parents and family.

They are more like sisters than friends really.

And of course, when the president returns, we must have a meet up!

The start of this year has been really exciting, with the transition from CHC to LifeUnited, my work, friends returning from aussie and all the catch up we have to do...part of the excitement was getting to meet Pastor Kong and Sun face to face for the first time!

And then there was the big day on Jan 29, all my hard work for the past 3 months...

really thankful to all who came down to support!

It has been a great learning experience, and part of the reasons why i love my job. Although there are times I feel like pulling out my hair, but the satisfaction at the end of the day is all pretty much worth it.

Coming to February, its got to be the best time of the year for me. Chinese New Year, Birthday celebrations, Valentine's Day...

Weijie brought me to an Italian fine dining restaurant for the first time. Pretty touched :P

Its been 7 years now, and its nice to know that there are still "Firsts" for us

And finally LifeUnited's first service!

I guess this pretty much sums up my first quarter of 2011.

Other memorable events that don't have photos to prove include my crazy nights at stereo, clubbing with my brother for the first time, club hopping with deb and adeline, the revelation of God's grace, condition vs consequence, choice vs commandments...

and at the end of the day, trying to be the same Jamie at work, play and church.

Hong Kong Day 4

Day 4 was my least favourite. But still glad I went.

Day 4 was Shen Zhen for some cheap shopping! Pretty much like bugis street.

Good thing was I manage to get a very pretty winter coat for 1/4 the price that you have to pay in Zara

I was set out to try all the bubble tea to find the best...but sadly..nth beats Koi

You basically see people carrying "luggages" around because thats just how much they buy at each shopping trip!

We had to buy one too cos weijie bought so much!

Headed back to HongKong in the evening, and went to check out MongKok!

I love it! Good shopping district! and its not just me saying this, but this comes from adeline and zoe too!

Ta-dah! got my miss sixty denims for an awesomely good price! Plus its a gift from weijie! hehe!

Hong Kong Day 3 (Dec2010)

Day 3 was our favourite day! Macau, here we come!

Tried doing a lil shopping at East Tsim Tsa Tsui, but all the shops were still closed

Love looking at landscapes like this! Imagine walking down the streets with cold air brushing across your face, as you snuggle up in your coat. mmmm

Okay, fast forward. here we are at the MGM Grand hotel in Macau! ITs beautiful.

Anyway one of the things i love about this free and easy trip is that everything is pretty much accessible and easy to find your way!

As you get out of the ferry terminal at macau, there will be hundreds of buses outside waiting to take you to their hotels! We just hopped on the one that was ready to leave and bingo! Ended up in one of the most beautiful hotels!

My other favourite is the Wynn Hotel.

So if you are planning to go Macau for just a day, do the streets first! Hotels are 24/7.

Cutest little thing we saw on the streets of Macau! Its surprising how many people actually own dogs and mind you, they are super cute and pretty.

And then we came across this dessert place, and out of curiosity, we went in to try this milk thingy.

Eeew. not nice.

Hong Kong Day One ala Christmas Day 2010

Have been wanting to blog about my little getaway for Christmas last year.. but never found the time to do so..with work and meet ups piling up once i'm back. Wait, I was working while on holiday too!

Did I ever mention that travelling is addictive? Well it sure got me hooked. Am seriously aiming to go europe this year!

Well for all the practical reasons, we finally chose to go Hong Kong because:

1) cheap (compared to Korea, japan, Europe)

*it wasn't THAT cheap in the end cos we booked everything late :(

2) its cold (i.e. apt for Christmas)

3) good food + shopping

Tiger airways was the most affordable option :$495

Trains are the most common mode of transport. Very much like Singapore.

So we arrived in Hong Kong around 12pm, and managed to find our hostel within an hour plus!

Hello Inn is located at Mirador Mansions, Tsim Tsa Tsui.

I would highly recommend any budget traveler to stay here cos the owner is a really nice guy called Ivan. He would help give directions, he speaks chinese and english PLUS, the door has this high-tech lock that requires a password or a special key to enter. Makes me feel kinda safe despite the dodgy neighborhood.

Please dun mind the face. I had barely 3 hours of sleep the night before and was in an iffy mood.

P/s: I love my marchesa inspired dress from bysi! The 3d floral details at the bottom were what made me spend $80 on this dress. Have been thinking of ways to wear it without looking fat or pregnant and finally! I think it looks best worn under a coat, and revealing just that bit of detail

First day was lots and lots of walking, partly cos we got lost too >.<

hmm.. we were pretty surprise to see so many malays!

and we like to refer everything we see to our past experiences in LA, New York, San Francisco, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia

And we came to a garden, the first thing weijie said was hey! this is like the eastern version of Central Park!

NOT!

We finally found the Peninsular Hotel which ade said we must must take photos with/ of!

And finally, we waited 2 hours in the freezing cold for the Symphony of Lights.

Friends, dun be fooled!! Its nothing amazing! I almost killed weijie for making me walk up and down the avenue of stars just to see some buildings doing the bat man light thing.

Not much photos for the first day, cos he forgot to charge the batteries >.<

Anyway we went to temple street after that and well, just another touristy thing that everyone says you have to do.

Headed back around 12 and even that small little room felt like heaven!

Best thing- there's HOT water for bath!

Hong Kong Day Two

Quick geography lesson.

Tsim Tsa Tsui is in Kowloon. And we basically spent the first day exploring that part of Hong Kong. Second day's plan was to cover the whole of Hong Kong Island which is across the river. That includes Central, Causeway Bay, the Peak and Wan Chai.

Well, plans change of course. Morning was spent taking photos around East Tsim Tsa Tsui cos the camera ran outta batt last night. And it was too beautiful to miss. You'll see why.

At first I thought weijie would be upset, since a hungry man is a angry man, but...

lo and behold! he bought more stuff than me!

And mind you, it was HEAVY

The steep slopes in Central makes me feel very much in San Francisco.

For a true Hong Kong experience, you got to eat here:

you have to "fight" for your own food, and you usually share a table with strangers

Christmas 2010

Christmas was really good this year! My celebrations lasted the whole week :)

Best part was I was officially off work! Although I pretty much couldn't get my mind off it totally, still it felt good to be able to wake up at 12 and work from home...

Now for the celebrations!

My first Christmas party with the gleeks. Many thanks to sis. A and pst. D for hosting such a great one! The food was awesome. My favourite got to be the yoghurt blackforest log cake from Marriott Hotel. yum.

Next up was my Christmas Dinner with the GGs.

Clara was dearly missed! Out of sight, but definitely not out of mind.
We decided to have a good one and Shu made reservations at P.S Cafe @Palais Renaissance. The atmosphere is good, but really, the food is nothing fantastic. Thank God for the company though! We had a mini gift exchange just among the 3 of us! haha thanks esther foong for my lil present! hehe! very practical and i like!

Attended Francis and Clarice's wedding last Sunday. And I must say it was one of the best weddings I attended! Kudos to the creative team who came up with the video. Francis certainly set the standard by being one of my first friends to get married!

Am seriously considering Intercontinental as one of my choices now :))

Fashion's Night Out #FNO

Held at the Lincoln Centre in New York City on Friday,10 September 2010, FNO was the biggest fashion show held in NYC thus far.

Vogue's editor Anna Wintour, is the brain child behind this global initiative and I'm totally buying into the idea.

Its fashion for everyone.

The concept behind Fashion's Night Out:

1) It is for the consumers to get up close with the designers. Or rather, for the designers to know their consumers.

2) Fashion that is shown will be clothing that will be in stores that week. It is the first time consumers get to attend a fashion show, see what's on the runway and go to the store and purchase it that week.

3) Basically, it lets people come together to be a part of the world of fashion. You get to see celebrities and designers in the stores. In short, to make fashion come alive.

By having it at the Lincoln Centre, Fashion is taking its rightful place beside the performing arts and put fashion on par with all the other cultural institutions.

i'm in awe of the magnificence and beauty of it all!

So bringing this closer to home, its pretty impossible to have all the designers and celebrities flown in to our little island (even H&M thinks our market is too small)but I think the idea is to get people involve. At least, I think that's what made FASHION IN THE SKY work.

Question: Would you pay $30 to see a fashion show of your favourite brands, if it includes entrance to an exclusive bazaar, a goodie bag, free flow of drinks and canapé + a one of a kind experience?

I still remember the last time we went to America, it was at a whim and to my surprise, mommy said "YES!" Sure hope to go again end of this year! The exchange rate is at its LOWEST now!

The ferry is surprisingly very comfortable! nicely furnished and not at all like the kind you take to send the army boys off to tekong. Haha!

Thanks to Wendy, we bought an all-day access pass at $40 per pax. Includes a ton of activities.. just enough for our 2D1N stay!

sadly no pictures of our kayak and attempts at snorkelling! Was afraid to spoil the camera since our kayak may overturn anytime.

We actually rowed the kayak out to the open sea...and quite a distance actually, only to find zero fishes and lots of corals. boohoo. Wj is a big fan of fishes so it was quite disappointing.

Flying Fox saved the day tho. Totally lifted our moods, and did I mention that I was sucha baby?! Didnt had the guts to jump off myself!

shooting isnt really my thing. I couldnt hit a single target and gave up after a few tries.

The resort had a Pool bar!

I usually hate swimming cos the water is usually too cold for my liking.. but here.. the water was warm! I LIKE!

Plus the bar was playing 98.7 fm. And they played my fav songs! "if you ever love somebody, put your hands up!" and "just the way you are" haha i know..i suck at song titles.

So yes, I have started work and my first week has been crazy. Been having less than 5 hours of sleep every night and time seems to fly at work. In one day, I can just attend 3 meetings and its already 6pm! I'm feeling the HEAT alright. LOL. Pun intended, but yeah so far I like my job! The extended family

So once again I'm at a transition stage. And its really so true that you learn the most about yourself and God in such moments. We always think that trials are there to test our faith, but really, trials also reflects our weaknesses.

Today I'm going to list a few nuggets of wisdom shared by some of the most respected people in my life as well as my own insights. Pretty much food for thought.

First of all, how do you define success? Different people will naturally have different definitions of success because we all have a different life purpose. If my life purpose is just to make alot of money, then my success will be defined by how much money I earn a month.

Sometimes when I see my peers earning so much more than me as a starting pay, it does eat me on the inside a little, and especially so whenever people ask me what's the pay I'm getting. I find myself silly when I peg my self worth to my pay cheque and know I shouldnt. I use to be affected by comments like "cheap labour" or that 'look' which I cant decide if its pity or "looking down" still bothers and I find myself having to "defend" my passion or the future which I'm "sowing" into with my long explanations. Not good.

During my graduation, I was sitting beside an acquaintance for like 2 solid hours, and we both agreed that the dreaded question of the year is "have you found a job?" And its funny how the economy seems to be doing okay and yet today I have a NUS fresh grad taking over my internship job at $450 a month.

By the way, I'm totally glad that I took up this internship. Even though I keep complaining about the lousy pay and "sai gang" that I have to do, but really, I get a crash course and hands on experience of the Public Relations function (something which I was totally unfamiliar with previously, but I soon realise is a very important skill), and more importantly understanding how things work in this industry simply through observation. I feel like I've learnt ALOT, and definitely added value. Theres alot of people who think I'm wasting my time, but I think its worth it if I can say that I'm more equipped today than I was yesterday. Who says learning has to stop when you graduate?

So yes, back to those nuggets.

Well so how do we know what's our life purpose? I mean there's no loud booming voice from heaven telling me what my future entails..

But what I do know is that God has created me personally, specifically, and it was well thought through when he decided what sort of interests, passion, characteristics and personality to put inside of me when he sent me to Earth.

There are many people out there in the world who are closer to God than they think they are simply because they are moving in the area of their talent.When you move in the area of your talent, you are moving in the path and purpose that God has prepared for you whether or not you are a believer. Someone once said this, "don't try to be someone else because you can never be better than that person at being himself/herself, but you can be the best YOU."

I have many talented and smart friends around me. And its a good thing! Did I mention that out of the 300 student cohort in my course, there were only 24 degrees with distinctions? And out of this 24, 8 are in my project group or circle of friends at school?! Thats how important environment is. And I really thank God for putting me in such an environment!

But at the same time, we tend to compare ourselves to our friends (subconsciously or not). I always think that Janet is more creative than me, I can never dance as well as debbie, adeline is a better version of me when it comes to work, esther is like some super power who is smart, creative and has a heart of gold, shu ann is very capable (probably a future "woman of the year"), weini is gorgeous and has great design skills and the list goes on and on.

Can you imagine how lousy I will feel about myself if I did not know that God has made me for a specific purpose and has placed a unique mix of passion, talents, personality and skills that no one can be exactly the same?

Don't worry, I'm not being sour! In fact, I thank God for such awesome friends! Great people to work with because we all complement each other, some way or another despite having so similar traits! I know right... why are we all so similar?! All I can say is, light attracts light.

So anyway, to end of this post..

On Thursday, I was invited to attend a Bebe Fashion event organized by my new company.

Never thought my future would be that of what I saw on TV or in magazines.

Yea, the bible says God will give you more than what you can ask or imagine. The glitz and glamour of it all is tempting but I'm not sure if this is really what I want. Will take this 3 probation months to find out and in the meantime continue learning and developing my skill set.

What's most important is I did not give up on my passion and allow myself to be sucked into the crazy rat race or the mundane life of a 9 to 5 job just for a better pay.

ITs funny how I use to say that I will not want to work in a start up company or a small agency, in fact my dream was to work in some large company, become a manager some day and yes I am brand conscious even when it comes to a job!

But I realise that working in a big company may not be a good starting point for a fresh grad after all. I've been to quite a few interviews with these big companies and I realise that even though the designation is that of an "executive", there isnt much room for you to be "creative" or opportunities to contribute in decision making processes.

In fact, after my short stint in a PR agency, I realise that much of the "creative" work is outsourced and the communications or marketing executive's job in the big company is to liaise with the agency. Of course I'm not saying that's the case for all companies, but you get my point!

Got to know about this brand after one of my job interviews with a fashion company.

Samantha Thavasa is a Japanese brand that is currently not retailing in Singapore yet. However, from what I gather, its pretty big in Japan and has a line up of Fashion A-List celebrities to boost its image.

"The brand’s star-studded roster includes the Hilton sisters, Beyonce Knowles, Victoria Beckham, Maria Sharapovaess, Penelope Cruz and her sister Monica Cruz, and more recently, socialite Tinsley Mortimer."

The brand's expansion in the US relied heavily on its public relations strategy which involved New York's socialite, Tinsley Mortimer ("one of the most closely watched style- makers on the East Coast") as she designs her own collection for the Samantha Thavasa brand.

Tinsley is often seen and photographed on fashion magazines, blogs and other celebrity gossip pages which gives the brand much coverage in the New York fashion scene.

Well, one week later we had our second attempt at celebrating amy;s birthday! Thank God she likes non-birthday kind of birthday celebrations.

And yes, I still remember I owe Weini a treat for hers!

So at Amy's request we had brunch at Wild Honey @ Mandarin Gallery

I think the place is overrated. Pretty expensive and not worth the price! Although ambience and service is good, food is only so-so. But I will still give them one more chance by trying out their Jap breakfast set next time!

So I was telling them about my coming job interview, and weini suggested I get a haircut!

Am I Spontaneous or what? After brunch , we walked down to PS.. and here I am @ Chapter 2!

They never fail to self entertain! haha! But this is what I like about them! Sometimes its really tiring to go out with people who you have to keep thinking of what to say to keep the conversation going the whole time.

Please let me come out of the wilderness this time. I've been waiting for far too long.

Sometimes I really don't understand why You let me go for all these interviews, giving me opportunities to present myself to all the big companies like FJ Benjamin and Estee Lauder, Jay Gee (New Look and Aldo).. companies that I always wanted to work for (or so I think)...

And then, I don't pass the interview. Really. All along I thought my only obstacle was where my degree came from, because that is suppose to open the doors to these interviews. As for the interview itself, I always thought I would do pretty fine, since I have so much practice. But as it turns out, coming from a private uni did not stop me from getting all these interviews.

So deep down, I guess, this is what You want me to know. That your grace is sufficient for me. Because of your grace, You showed me that where I came from did not matter because You are God, and You are for me.

At your will, doors to opportunities may open. And at your will, they may shut as well.

Going through this "wilderness" has once again bring me to a place of dependence upon You. A new level of faith. Knowing that no matter how smart or good I think I am, if I think I can do this without You and on my own strength, boy am I wrong.

I know some people reading this might probably think: wow Jamie, I din know you're so weak. Can't you depend on your own abilities?

Well yes, I admit I'm weak. (Ouch, I really hate to say this out loud sometimes)

But let the weak say I am strong. (Joel 3:10)

Next Monday, I'll be going for my second interview with *Tyan.

So to end this on a good note, my graduation ceremony is on Aug 26th! And I'll be graduating with a Degree with Distinction :)

Have been wanting to blog about my mission trip for a looonng time but just havent gotten down to doing it.

Don't want to lose this memory tho!

Well something in me changed. Most people wont realise it. But I think i've become more independent after this trip.

There was a period before this that I dont like to sleep alone at night. haha it was a phase where I had to meet weijie every day! sounds crazy, but yeah

Was feeling very disheartened, emo-ing cos I cant get a job (not that I have one now) that I liked... screwed up my estee lauder interview...felt pretty distant from God.. unequipped to lead my cg..new connect group means new challenges.. worry worry worry

Basically drowning in my own despair.

And then i realise how selfish I've been acting and I needed to find that fire and passion again. Sometimes I'm just so caught up with my own problems, that when I lift up my eyes and try to solve others, i realise how small mine actually are.

Made a decision to go and wooosh! Best mission trip so far!

so here's where i stayed with 13 other people!! They make an awesome mission team really! Super creative, spontaneous, and hilarious!

So on the first night, only the youths had arrived. (haha nice having the whole house to ourselves.) but we were busy preparing for the next day's schedule. Lots of last minute changes. And I was wrecking my brains over how to present my testimony! hehe thank God for Elson and Royston who were so patient and helpful ^.^

So with barely 3 hours of sleep, here we are at our first school!

IT was super funny!! but no choice... only 7 of us to run the whole show? everyone suddenly became multi talented! LOL

Well after that I had the chance to share my testimony!

A lot of people think that going to mission trips is about going to third world nations and villages to preach the gospel or help the poor, but there are also those that seek to inspire and empower youths to realise their potential, talent and God-given creativity that is in each and every one of us!

There is a lost generation out there, youths and teenagers that find the church irrelevant. And You'll be surprised at how much you have to offer! Simple knowledge and things that we take for granted on home ground can help change someone else's life.

One thing I feel though, its not so much of the skills that we impart to them, but its the spirit behind it.

Have been following Style Bubble on Twitter for quite a while now, and have been reading her blog posts everyday! She's one of the few fashion bloggers I'm following currently and I like that she updates very often..sometimes 2 posts in a day!

Recently she did a post on Roberta Furlanetto, a Milan-based designer, who has collaborated with Dior in the past...well I really liked her A/W 10-11 collection and did a silly thing yesterday.

Walked past Bysi and saw a dress that had 0.1% resemblance to her latest collection and bought it in 15 minutes (it wasn't even my size! XS was sold out).

Well as always.. my impulse buys always leaves me in regret. Dress was too long and WJ says I look pregnant ?!?!?

Anyways, have decided to go alter it at the tailor's tmr! Saw a shop at Jurong East last week while studying with esther. And we were pretty amazed at the workmanship of the dresses there! Shall go test how good they really are tmr. * Additional motivation to study at the library!

*This is how i hope it'll look after I send it to the tailor's! haha. I tucked in the dress to shorten it manually, but yeah you still can see the folds at the side!

Well so my obsession with New York has been pretty crazy recently. And even more so the last few days! My mum called back from Hong Kong yesterday and the first thing I told her was "I'm going to New York!"

I know! I havent even won the contest and I already think i'm going! Mum bought a luggage for me already! haha so I think if i dun get it... i'll be very very very upset.

KIDDING. but yeah I really hope I win! So please vote for me here if you haven't!

Day 16- Last Day in LA

Last Day felt like the saddest day of our lives. haha. We didn't want to go home and there were still so much that we have not seen! If i were a millionaire (new song I heard on the radio today)...

So there were a few things that we forfeited during the trip. We missed out on the San Diego Zoo and Getty Museum which Shu Ann highly recommended :(

Is it time to close the chapter of FITS and move on to greater things already?

ITs been an amazing journey definitely. Despite all the tears and sweat (literally) I think the effect it has on each individual is more than what "success" can be defined by mere attendance. Lives are changed. Connections are made. Bonds are formed. People are inspired. God is real.

There is a new confidence found in each individual who having stepped out of the line, there is no turning back. Its just like a stretched rubber band that can never go back to its original size.

Once again, I just want to thank every one who helped make this dream come to pass!

Been following the owners of Bonitochico on Twitter lately and read their blogs! Really inspiring young ladies who proved that friends CAN do business together. I think it'll be so amazing if one day their brand really becomes a high street label. haha its funny that somehow I think its possible! Can imagine it happening actually.

When I was young, I loved to day dream. You won't believe it, but I really loved to just lie in bed and allow myself to escape from reality. I would imagine I'm going overseas with my friends, and all the minute details like going to the airport and even the process of packing my luggage would give me bouts of excitement that seemed so real!

Alas the day I stop dreaming is the day when I'm too busy to dream. Life has become so busy that dreaming has become a luxury. I can't wait for my exams to be over so I can allow myself to enter back into the world of gossip girl and Korean dramas, hahahha. This reminds me of shu ann's comment on how she can't trust her lawyer friends to handle her court cases in future cos she can't imagine putting her life into the hands of someone who watches gossip girl- because a person is what she reads and watch, what ever a person allows to fill her mind, makes her who she is.

People were queuing in the rain just to get cupcakes from Sprinkles. And this is also where my horror began! I accidentally spilled the hot chocolate onto Erik's car seat as we were driving off to Hollywood! I seriously wanted to cry even though Erik was being uber nice about it..saying its ok and all.. but hey! which guy doesnt mind his car seat looking like someone accidentally poo-ed on it! haha thank God Weijie manage to clean it off just before we came back to Singapore. ;))

Well so back to story! Here we are at Hollywood! Bad news is it was raining heavily and my new Calvin Klein jacket was stained with hot choco!

And of course, Hollywood's Walk of Fame! Ade's homework for me was to find Michael Jackson!

But Alas! The weather was very unkind to us! Madame Tussauds Wax Museum was our next best hideout! Well it turned out to be ultra fun!!

Day 5 was spent mostly at home planning for our very spontaneous new york trip! It all started with Erik..." hey guys, I've got a crazy suggestion..."

The Crystal Cathedral is awesomely majestic! Our photos certainly do not do justice to it.

So after visiting the Crystal Cathedral, we had a quick lunch then it was home sweet home! Partly to plan the nyc trip. partly to store up energy to hit the bar at night! hur hur. Ade was half afraid i'll fall asleep while dancing. Which was highly likely cos my energy level seems to hit zero by 9pm when I was there!

Met up with the pretty girls club on tuesday, and the golden girls on wednesday! LOL. its funny how I somehow belong to a girl club with cliche and bimbotic names both in secondary school and JC. Please dun say cos i;m in it!!

haha so anyway! All it took was a few smses...and TADAH! our very own picnic! I LOVE our efficiency and spontaneity :P

YUMMY FOOD!! its a pretty weird combi but its all our favourite food plus KOI milk tea!!

okay I like collating all my favourite pictures in one place... so while facebook does have all these already...its too much! a photoblog allows me to capture the whole event in a few photos (5-6 photos that capture the essence of the meeting)... Day 3 and 4- San Francisco

Departure!

Woke up early in the morning after the hockey game last night...

San Francisco!! Its my second most favourite place of visit during this trip! I really like the architecture of the buildings there, so quaint and and oddly picturesque!

Lunch at a Thai restaurant! Feels uber good to eat hot stuff when the weather is so freaking cold!

This is how cold I was... couldnt take it! had to put on weijie's shirt for extra layering.. Think it was 4 degrees that day? Anyway after lunch, we walked to Union Square- an upscale shopping area

I love Macy's and Victoria Secrets! Although I din really buy much from there... but their stores never fail to attract me! Especially VS! Check out the one below! hahaa lots to learn from them! Their store front and interior design of the shop simply calls out to me! "Come in!!"

Taking the cable car! Cost us 5 bucks each but its pretty worth it! Its quite a long ride to fisherman's wharf and you get to see the city, chinatown, etc.

First up! Ghirardelli Square where I bought the famous chocolates for the cg!

From there, we walked all the way down through Fisherman's Wharf to Pier 39.

I was half dead from the cold and all the walking by 5pm. haha.. weijie's camera was so cold it started to shiver as well! Seriously!

Erik and Ade came to save us during dinner time!

Famous crab place for dinner!! I would have eaten alot more if I weren't so tired!

Day 4 was more sight seeing..but most of the photos were in my cam!!

The golden gate bridge! haha we always see it in the movies and now we get to walk on it ourselves! Hopefully ade's cam has more pictures!

Lunch was at IKE's place! I think possibly the BEST sandwich I've ever eaten! Another great recommendation by Erik!

After lunch, Erik picked us up to drive us to the 2nd largest mall where we fixed wendy's laptop at Sony Vaio... rarws! she owes us big time man!! it was soooo troublesome!! First time we went, the tech guy already knock off, and so we spent a total of 3 trips just to get it done! And I had to carry that 3kg thing in my hand carry to and from LA!

ITS Ice Hockey night!! hahaa i was dead tired by that time man.. jetlag >.<

It was pretty exciting especially at the end... but i still caught a few winks in between! LOL

I think it was a good experience tho!! When in Rome, do as the Romans do

hahaa another american culture I picked up... - SPEND ON CREDIT.

I told myself that i must must blog about this! haha i'm currently at a point in my life where EVERYTHING is going so smoothly for me! I've been through lots of ups and downs before...but this period has been just beyond imaginable. I'm like so high, I half expect something bad is going to happen. I dunwan to forget about this feeling.

Today while I was worshipping God during service, tears just kept flowing non stop as I think of how good He has been to me!! And just how much God loves me! There's just so much to give thanks for!

First up, I'll be flying off to LA in less than 48 hours! Its like my dream come true, going on a holiday with my boyfriend and my bff! I always dreamt about it. Since young, I've always wanted to travel overseas with my friends... my family has been through hard times when my father got retrenched cos of the economic crisis...but now, at the age of 51 my father got a new job with a good pay, my mum is excelling at her workplace-looking at possibilities of directorship...we arent that rich, but my mum is willing to give me whatever is within her ability to. Thats how blessed I am!

And with all my heart, I believe its because God is FAITHFUL! Even through bad times, my family continued to serve and trust in Him. My mum gives bible study, dad serves as an usher, me in cell group ministry. Sowing in tears and reaping in joy!

Secondly, I just got back my results... and its just amazing how I got exactly what I asked for! There was one cell group meeting when Zoe got us to speak into our own lifes, and the things I spoke and visualised came to pass! I clearly remember saying " I see myself getting 2HD(s) and 2Di(s)" Lo and behold! I got it! I'm not trying to brag here... but I want myself to remember times like this.

Thirdly, overnight prayer meeting was awesome!!! Lead worship in the zone for the first time and I received so much more than I expected!

Life is a roller-coaster ride really. There is always the ups and downs...then there is the journey of going up and almost reaching the peak before the huge drop...

haha initially I was thinking like "Oh no, my life is so great now... I'm going to go through a hard time soon!" But!! Thus says the Lord " No eye has seen, no ear has heard, what God has prepared for those who love Him. " I cant believe I actually limited God in my own mind! I think like this is the best already... but God is saying to me today, that there is so much more!

I'm sooo excited about my walk with God!

Anyway, weini and alison came to my house to make cheesecakes today!

We were actually looking for cheap entertainment...but realise that it wasnt that cheap after all! we each spent $25 on our cakes!

haha but it was a very fruitful day still! 3 different flavoured cheesecakes! Kite flying! Badminton showdown between the pretty and the gorgeous! Mario Kart!

Well my previous 2 posts were about my meetups with my jc and sec sch friends after my exams, so how can i leave out my uni friends!

Haha in a span of one week i met up with all 3 groups! So you can imagine how i spent my first week of freedom!

We went to waraku at the central (Clark Quay) and it was not bad! Check out the humongous bowl of udon I had for only 8 bucks!

Headed to Indocine for round 2, and lucky us! Got 30% off the bill cos Xinyi's friend was working that night. haha we had their choco fondue which was pretty nice...but i din really like their drinks. haha. Some tasted like cough medicine to me :S

Well, I'm gonna miss them! Most of them are from the poly batch and have alrd graduated this sem! ahhh. wish me luck in finding new project mates next year...

Anyway.. not too long ago we had this quick photoshoot for a Vibes publicity stunt

hello world! Thought I should introduce my brother and sister to you! LOL! My sis just emailed me these photos! I love them alot although i dun usually show it! haha after watching my sister's keeper, it makes me think alot! Watching the love between the siblings in the movie makes me think of mine! Makes me wonder how much I will give for them to live!

Well, we fight alot. HAH. We scream, cry and shout at each other, but at the end, things will always go back to normal and we'll still go to our favourite ice-cream shop called THE DAILY SCOOP as a family!

A family is REAL when there are fights and quarrels, differences are normal, and still come together at the end of the day, simply because we are a family. As contradicting as it sounds, 'fights' are a sign of real relationships. I remember my 'fight' between bff and I, my 'fight' with Janet, and while it was a hard time at first, (fyi, such 'fights' can last for weeks) but i really think I got to know the both of them better and our friendships are stronger than before, because it stood the test! (And, just for those who dun already know, I 'fight' with weijie all the time haha but our 6 year record must count for something right!) On the contrary pretentious relationships are those that pretend everything is fine, when actually its not. So wrt all the hoo-ha thats been going on, here's my two cents worth- we are more real then others think we are, definitely not pretentious, not fake and while things are not back to normal YET, hey, this is just part and parcel of a NORMAL process because it takes time which is why its called a process in the first place anyway. :)

ANTM Cycle 12

America's Next Top Model is always one of my favourite TV shows.. besides watching it for the pretty girls, the fashion, the bitchy fights that add flavour to the whole show..LOL.. its usually pretty funny... but this time round cycle 12 gave me another reason to love it!

London really stood out from the rest. Initially I didnt know much about her, but during the first few episodes when the girls had this huge fight over who gets to sleep on the bed and yada yada, she just offered to sleep on the floor! That caught my attention!

Found out that she introduced herself as a street preacher! How cool is that! Totally not ashamed of who she is and what she believes in. Click here to read more about her!

Point is, your God given talent will bring you to the spotlight, and when you're under that spotlight, the things you say, the way you behave, will influence hundreds if not thousands! I read alot of comments about her, many people, christian or not, were just simply attracted to her! Not just cause of her looks, but her personality! I'm sure many had a better view of Jesus through her. The WWJD (what would Jesus do) slogan aint just a cool term to her, but she was actually living it out!

I'm totally in awe of her. To stand strong on your principles and beliefs in such a bitchy world, loving the unlovables, she was bringing more glory to God even though she didnt win. Fact is, She didnt have to win the competition in order to bring glory to God. Many a times we think we need to be the "winner" to be "at the top", but really, it is the process and how we react to situations that make the difference.

I am so frustrated with myself right now I dunno what else to do.

its 443 am and I cant get to sleep! hate it whenever i have insomnia. especially when the next day is going to be a mad rush >.<

I need all the sleep i can get... but the stress is getting to me! My mind is constantly moving, it cant slow down enough for me to enter REST mode.

1) I'm frustrated with my lack of discipline.

Havent been exactly following my timetable as planned... so i'm 2 days behind schedule in my revision... means ALOT especially when I only have 6 days for each module

2) Despite my lack of time, i'm still taking up jobs cos the money is too attractive and I'm broke!

So many things I want to buy >.<

3) Busy worrying about what people think of me (well not all... definitely not jason...)

4) Burden with the new responsibilities that come at the wrong time

5) Busy worrying about others when I already dun have enough time for myself. This is the worst. Because there is so much I want to do... but I cant whenever I think of my coming exams...and then I feel torn and lousy about myself for being so selfish

6) Busy comparing myself with others... and wondering if i'm wasting my time doing what i'm doing now

2)Talentinc every Wednesday!

Yesterday was the second lesson for my modelling course... and it was FUN!

Haha pre-lesson was a MAD RUSH though!

Me and cia went to Tekka mall to trim our eyebrows! Did threading for the first time...wasnt as painful as I thought but still painful! Teared quite a bit, but thank God it was FAST!

We also had to submit a photo of ourselves and so spent quite a bit of time taking last minute photos outside NAFA...

After many failed attempts... was so tempted to call kenneth to come help us! LOL. I think I caught a nice shot of cia though! *claps claps*

Rushed down to jurong west and was late!! ZAH!! thats like taboo man. Last lesson Genecia kept emphasizing on punctuality and professionalism :S

haha we were doing our homework on the train though.. and cia kept saying we'll get caught on Stomp cos we were cutting magazines while standing up!

(Our homework was to source out 20 poses and collate them in a file/ book)- Something like a Pose Bank! So that during photoshoots we wun be caught unprepared!

Lesson 2 was more fun cos we did the catwalk and poses thing. haha. thank God for my dancing background cos I think it helped alot when I was doing the catwalk. I think alot had to do with the previous night's OPM too though. Havent really shared with anyone about it yet, but shall do so in a while!

And so I got praised for my catwalk (hehe) except that I was a lil too bouncy and energetic! LOL.

Doesnt matter much though, cos I'm too short to do runway anyway. But still ego food always tastes nice :P Boosts my confidence a lil.

Which is why I decided to join talentinc in the first place. Besides the fact that they'll send us for casting and the possible additional income, even if I dun end up as a model, doesnt really matter, what matters is I've learnt something from the whole course (one of which, is to really build my confidence) and I gave myself the opportunity to try new stuff.

3) Overnight prayer meeting

Was kinda stress out before the meeting cos was rushing my global marketing project and I realise that the song I wanted to lead for praise was too high for me.... the range was one octave from verse to verse...and singing in my falsetto for a praise song will lack the energy/ power. Worse still, mine was the only praise song for the 3rd session.. which was like 2am??

Thoughts of backing out and asking royston or elson to sing for me instead kept going thru my mind. And it was such a struggle, especially when you know you shouldnt be giving up.

Session one was awesome! DT showed us the video below...watch the video and you'll know what I mean...

I know there are areas in my life that I'm still holding on so tightly to...haha one of which is my pride, my "face", my fear of failing...

I thought I overcame my fear after session one and watching this vid...

But when session 2 started... fear just struck me so strongly again... and it was crazy how I felt so lousy about myself...and started comparing myself to others

It was only when it was time for personal communion with God that I felt His presence so tangibly. I was so angry with myself for being so fearful. Its good when someone else speaks into your life, But when God speaks, a personal encounter with God is all it takes. It may be the same simple words spoken in the video, but the difference lies in who said it. Its just like having someone else saying that God loves you, and experiencing the love yourself is totally different!

To me, session 3 was the best!! Not cause praise turned out to be super high and fun... but because I know I overcame. Thanks to all who came up to me and said I did a good job, but really, if not for the encounter during session 2, I probably wouldnt have that much confidence and freedom on stage.

Will always remember what S. Angela said to me and Elson during ldrs meeting, that if we can put our "face" aside, and not be afraid to fail, God can use us in a powerful way.

This saturday will be the blood donation gig and I'm really SAD I've to miss it cos of global marketing lecture! I've always been afraid of donating blood, and have not done so cos I'm "underweight"...haha good excuse, but at the same time I still feel a lil guilty for not being able to join in the the whole "saving lives" campaign.

Well, this time round I get to contribute to the community by helping to create buzz about blood donation! Whoever heard of live performances when you go to donate blood? Well, more than just providing free entertainment to the blood donars, we hope to attract some attention and create buzz about blood donation! Come on down to Siglap South between 12-3pm this sat, 19 sept! There will be free busing services from Eunos MRT starting from 1030am!

Sudden whim of being house-wifey:

Its been a while since I really spent time at home and so I decided to go cold storage to do some grocery shopping with Jodi today! The weather was good to us and we ended up spending almost $40!?! I really wonder how my parents pay for all these most of the time...really felt the pinch today!

And so...for the first time in AGES... I decided to "cook" for weijie

I also bought the ready made packaged kind of satay and warmed them up using the toaster. LOL. I can sooo foresee our future home being something like that. Everything will be cooked using the toaster. Fuss free and easy to clean. Poor weijie.

Well I guess this whole "cooking" thing was inspired by my uni friends. WE had a barbecue recently and the food was like WOW! The best bbq food I ever tasted!I'm like... how come they know so much about cooking eh? And the last time I went to Qilin's party... she cooked most of the dishes herself- I LOVED the scallops and enoki-bacon the most! And the best part is they make it sound so easy!!

And so the highlight for today's post!

MARSHMALLOW CORNFLAKE TREATS!

Sticky Marshmallow Cornflakes treats

Makes: 32 squares
Prep Time: 15min
Cook Time: 15min
Cooling Time: 1-2hours
Ready In: Max. 2hours 30min
Servings: 32 pieces

Ingredients:

125g butter
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
1 large packet of Rocky Mountain marshmallows (i think it's 300g)
2 medium sized packets

Method:

1. Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat.
2. Add vanilla and marshmallows. Stir continuously until marshmallows have completely melted.
3. Remove from heat, and mix in cornflakes.
4. Press the cornflakes mixture into a pan.
5. When cool, cut into squares and serve.

Frustrations

People feel frustrated when their minds are renewed but their practices are not.

Many a times we know we should be doing a certain thing, for example, stepping out of our fears, comfort zone, or to just simply do the right thing. For me personally, it is to be more proactive, take more initiative, try new things, let go of my own fears, because these are what I preach but when it comes to the action time... zahh...i know I have to keep pushing my own limits and glass ceilings so that those I lead can increase themselves.

A sermon is just a concept until it is act upon. We can go and listen to so many good speakers, and they're good because they reinforce the knowledge. Minds will be renewed, but the frustration will still be there until practised.

Its not easy really. Because while our renewed mind tells us one thing, forces in the environment, creates such inertia to practice it. And that's why relationships are so important. We need people to believe in us, as much as we need to believe in ourselves and believe in others
