My internship experience has been rather rewarding so far! I'm really glad I got this marketing internship!
Although there is still a bit of boring admin work but i've learnt that it all boils down to details. Even though you think its mundane, but what you are doing, for e.g. database, is actually very important! Information on your customers and prospects is an asset to the company, and proper usage can rake in millions of dollars! I think knowing the purpose of what you're doing makes a whole lot of difference. It changes your attitude!
and we all know that your attitude determines your altitude!
Did my first presentation to my manager and department last thursday, and I must say, they are very open to new ideas, even though it may come from an intern.
Many things are caught and not taught, and it is the environment of learning, finding solutions and alternatives, creatively going around the boundaries and limitations that is what I'll take away more than the theory. Especially in a big organization, there are many levels of clearance. You have to get approval from this manager, that department, but they wun take a "cannot" as an answere. They will be like: "can this be done in another way?" "how about this??" "what about that?" Be a problem solver! Dun just say "this cannot be done" suggest alternatives!
Marketing may seem like a glamourous job, but there is actually alot of ground work to be done. I guess at the end of the day, a good job is not one that you enjoy but feel a sense of accomplishment/ fulfilment when the project is done.
I think the culture of the organization/ department plays a major role too. Flexibility will release more of a person's potential than longer fixed hours.
