Its interesting how the word preached in all 3 sessions during fop seem to be the highlights of my recent conversations.
Previously I asked what you would do in your last 24 hours on earth...
And coincidentally, Mark Conner started with the question...
What if you only had 3 months to live?
I remember I said I want to do things of eternal value especially more so on my last day on earth since it is my LAST chance to.
But what exactly are things of eternal value??
Everyone has values. Subconsciously or not, every decision you make is filtered through your values. Your values come from your family, friends, culture, media, basically your environment.
In today's society, there are 3 core values.
1) Many people buy into the value of fun and pleasure
In fact, many organizations are claiming to be a "fun" workplace, in order to attract the talents. Take Google, and LG electronics for example, they understand that the younger generations are not motivated by job security, instead the focus is on work life balance.
Ask any person on the street and they'll tell you life is about living to enjoy. Life is short. Enjoy the moment.
2) We are living in a society that in is into gaining and acquiring. i.e. Possession
3) We live in a culture that is all about prestige.
I'm not saying it is right or wrong, but these are things that do not last. Temporal happiness.
After a while, you need to get your next fix.
I love the fact that Mark C. put my thoughts into 3 practical steps.
3 things of eternal value:
1) Knowing God.
I din say believing in God. Even the devil believes in God!! But knowing God is to have a relationship with him. Your friendship with God is eternal.
2)Loving People
Love has an eternal value. The way you treat people has an eternal value. I think this is the point that spoke to me the most. Love is something that is very lacking in the world today. By loving someone, you make a difference in her life...which in turn may bring about a chain effect... because when she has found acceptance and love, is able to do the same for someone else.
Its very hard to love really. We are born selfish by nature. And the only way to be able to love others is when you have experienced that abundant and overflowing love yourself. hahaa so much till you are able to share w others.
3) Invest your time, talents and resources in the work of God.
So yes, to all those who are running the same race as me and sometimes you ask yourself why are you doing all these... just remember that what you're doing has an eternal value!
A Life worth living.
